What's new in Profiles Switcher
Release notes for every version, newest first. The current version is 1.3.2. Updates arrive through the Mac App Store.
Version 1.3.2
Improved
- The Add Rule and Add Action menus show an icon beside every type and group the types into sections (Network, Power, Sound, Apps & Files, ...), so the right one is quicker to find
- The menu bar icon turns orange while automation is paused, so you can see at a glance that no profile will switch
- Network service rules list every connection you have set up, including VPNs that are not connected yet, keep working after a service is renamed, and show VPN tunnels (such as Tunnelblick) with their address and what they belong to
Fixed
- Bluetooth rules now show their icon in the profile's rule list
- Battery level rules, custom wallpaper actions and sound actions now show their icons on macOS 13
Version 1.3.1
Improved
- Wallpaper picker: built-in macOS wallpapers are now found whether macOS keeps them in a per-wallpaper folder or directly in its hidden wallpapers folder, so a macOS update cannot hide part of the catalog
- Wallpaper picker: the current macOS release's default wallpaper keeps its "macOS Default" name even when a macOS update renames the underlying file, and a dark variant is listed separately
- The menu bar now explains why the Wi-Fi name is missing instead of always saying "Not connected to Wi-Fi": it tells apart Location access being needed, Wi-Fi being off, there being no Wi-Fi hardware, and simply not being connected
Fixed
- The Wi-Fi network name now appears as soon as you allow Location access, instead of staying blank until the next launch
- The menu re-reads the Wi-Fi state every time you open it, so it can no longer show a stale network
Version 1.3 ·
Added
- Wallpaper picker: use the wallpapers macOS downloads in System Settings (including dynamic day/night ones) after a one-time permission
- Wallpaper picker: aerial wallpapers (Sequoia Sunrise, Tahoe Day, ...) can be set as high-quality still frames
- Wallpaper picker: Apple's full catalog is now visible, with guidance to download missing entries
Improved
- Wallpaper picker on macOS Tahoe: the current macOS default wallpaper is listed again
- Setup and Settings now explain that macOS shows each permission dialog only once; if a permission was denied earlier, they guide you to System Settings instead of a dialog that cannot reappear
- Setup wizard: the button that moves to the next step is now labeled "Skip for Now" or "Next Step" instead of "Continue", so it cannot be mistaken for the permission prompt
- Setup wizard: the final step now lists any permissions that are still off instead of always saying "You're All Set"
- Setup and Settings note that macOS may ask to restart the app after a permission is changed in System Settings
Version 1.2 ·
Added

- Low Power Mode trigger: activate when Low Power Mode is enabled or disabled
- Appearance trigger: activate when the system switches between Dark and Light mode
- Time zone trigger: activate when the system time zone changes (e.g. while traveling)
- Hide App action: hide a running app without quitting it
- Open File/Folder action: open a file or folder, or reveal it in Finder
- Speak Text action: speak text aloud using any installed voice
- Browser picker for Open URL action: choose a specific browser instead of the system default
- Priority system: assign a number to each profile; lowest number wins when multiple match
- AND match mode: require all rules to be true before a profile activates
